I went to an interview for school admin and was advised by 2 different 'organisations' not to wear a suit. They told me to be smart so blouse trousers/skirt. Not high fashion or way out stuff. They told me to think about the area that the school was in (deprived ex mining area in this case) and think about how you would look to the parents coming in to query stuff to you (eg dinner money, school trips) and they you would need to look approachable and friendly, not be someone dressed in a power suit who they would possibly be 'frightened of'.
I took on board what they said and made an effort to look at what the staff at my kids school wore,(same town but more affluent area) and sure enough only HT was dressed in a suit the rest were smart but less formal. I also went along to the school office to 'query' something to check them out.
P.S I was also told a cardi was a no, no to an interview.0 -

I've always worked in admin/office jobs and never worn a jacket to an interview. I usually chose a black skirt and nice shirt or sweater, simple earrings, something I would wear to work anyway. You need to chose something that you feel comfy in, most of all. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

Bear in mind that while you should be comfortable in what you are wearing, this is your only opportunity to 'sell' yourself.
Impressions are made in seconds and you need to look like you've made an effort and are smartly dressed, no matter what everyone else is wearing once they've had their foot in the door.
For example, I rarely interview propspective staff while wearing a suit, but will always think better of a candidate in a suit jacket / of smart appearance than someone in a cardy that suggests they are taking the matter casually.
Overdressed can be taken into account, under dressed (by what ever standards an employer has) will never be forgiven. First impressions count."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -

So have I, and ALWAYS worn a jacket at interview. Usually with a black skirt and plain coloured top underneath. In summer I wear a short sleeved jacket instead, except once when it was really hot, then I just wore a sleeveless dress (& carried the jacket in case they had aircon). Where I used to work was blinking FREEZING inside in summer, covered in goosepimples isn't a great look!0 -
Sounds like you're sorted tiff or I'd have offered you the loan of a larger jacket - pink do? :rotfl:
Whatever you wear, make sure it looks as if you can move in it, especially at primary level. You'll need to be able to bend down to hear what small children are saying etc.Signature removed for peace of mind0
