Planning garden from scratch - raised bed question
I think I've finally come up with a plan for our garden that I'm happy with. Our garden isn't big and we need to fit a shed and trampoline in as well as a table and chairs which doesn't leave much space for growing things. So....I'm going to build raised beds from decking boards in an 'L' shape around the perimeter of the garden.
At the moment, there is a 2' strip of earth that was once a flower bed, then the slabbed area starts. This is the area that the beds will sit on, I'm planning on making them 80cm deep and as long as the fence in both directions. So if I were to do it right now, the bed would sit partly on earth and partly on the slabs iyswim.
Does it make any difference whether the raised beds are built on the ground directly, or if they are on slabs? Is one way better than another?
Also what height woud you suggest making them? My intention is to grow veg in them.

Not sure if this will help but we did a raised bed against our garden wall straight on to the concrete using bricks...........it's about four bricks high at the front and side and is perfect for a little herb garden.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !
