Hi
I was hit by a bombshell this week.
I had a couple turn up on the doorstep and promptly tell me that they think their 13 year old is actually minefrom a one moment of madness 14 years ago.
Whilst i a have offered to take a dna test and take any responsibility if proved to be true, can anyone tell me if maintenence can be backdated as this has been hidden from both me and the husband for 14 years.
Im trying to do the right thing, whilst being bombarded with threats over the phone at all hours.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

If the CSA have never been involved and the parent with care has never been on benefits then I would say no.

PS I should add, what a horrible shock for you. I hope it works out as well as it can.
Good luck

The claim is only valid from the time of contact from the csa, don't deal any other way :beer:0 -
Don't worry, if the CSA have not been involved thusfar, then they can't backdate. I hope you can sort it out amicably - poor child! Do they know?0

What a shock for you all!!
My question would be why has this taken 13yrs for anyone to contact you?
Also, yes, definetly insist on a DNA test.
As others have said any claim re the CSA is only valid from the date the case is opened.0 -
What threats are being made?0

If this were totally legit they would surely be highly embarrassed about approaching you and would focus more on you and the child rather than the money. The only reasons I can think of for threats would be if they want to bully you into accepting responsibility without a DNA test or if they are in deep financial doodoo. Either way I think you should involve the police.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I would certainly contact the police. Keep all texts, messages that you receive. If possible, record the conversations on a voice recorder. This is harassment in the least, and possibly threats depending on the nature of them. Then insist on the DNA test - don't be bullied into anything.0

Wow this must be a huge shock.
You say a couple turned up at your door, were they a couple at the time of conception and this is more about this coming out or have they got together since.
If it's since then it may be they are looking for money but why now?
It doesn't sound like its for the childs welfare as if it was the mother would have told you at the time and have given you the opportunity to be involved in the childs life.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

Charlie, i'm not known for catching on fast:o, but this situation sounds a dodgy one to me also.
GET A DNA TEST DONE BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE AND IF YOU DO NOTHING ELSE I think other good advice would be use the online csa calc and start hanging onto 'payments' because if the csa contact you, you will start to rack up arrears from the date they contact you.
If the child turns out to be yours you will have less of a struggle with finance and if it turns out the child isnt your child thank god you took the dna test.
Also note when taking a dna test the courts and csa only accept certain companies results i'm not sure which companies so find out which companies are cast iron accepted by court and csa and get your dna done with them.
Wishing you good luck Charlie remember theres every chance this child isnt yours, so i'll keep em crossed for you:)0
