Cheapest Must See places in Europe?

Hello,
I know I am leaving this late, but my girlfriend does not live in the UK and will be leaving after the next academic year to go back home to Mauritius.
Between now and end of July next year I want to book as many holidays in Europe (as I can afford!) as she may not get a chance afterwards (due to money, extra costs, family circumstances, etc.).
Any ideas about the best way to go about this and relatively cheaply?
Would it be better to book hotels and transport tickets now to travel from place to place in Europe for next year? Or is it cheaper to spread several small breaks over the year?
Luckily, my working arrangement at the moment are 4 days work and 4 days off so I should have enough holidays.
Also I want to have a first trip this July. Last minute I know, but idea what would be the cheapest must see place to see in Europe?
I would be grateful for any help!

Don't miss out on Krakow in Poland. About 5 zlotys to the £ at the moment, great city with a very compact (walkable) centre, lots to see and you can eat as cheaply or lavishly as you like at very reasonable prices. Book hotel ahead using Trip Advisor, flights with Ryanair. Hotels mostly central, shuttle train available from airport.
This year will be our fifth visit and I never get tired of it!Normal people worry me.0 -
Why dont you join the Youth Hostel Association and save a bundle on accommodation?

I would have thought Paris would be the best first place for your girlfriend to see?0 -
Use Easyjet or Ryanair and visit Rome! It's a special place!0

Agree on Krakow, it's a lovely city and small enough to explore on foot. Lots of useful info re places to stay, eating out, places to visit, etc to be found on TripAdvisor. You would find it much cheaper than the likes of Paris, Barcelona and Rome. If you could afford it then, yes, Rome is a beautiful city to visit too!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I've lived in both and I can assure you they can be very cheap. You just need to apply the normal principles and look off the beaten track for resturants and accomodation. Paris in particular can be very cheap as so many of the attractions are totally free and travel is vantastic value.0 -
Thank U all for the post I have been trying to access the Budget Flight checker but it keeps saying that I have missed an indicator but even though I have checked this as well as my partner all boxes R ticked. HELP.
We are trying to find cheap flights to Poland, well Warsaw to be exact if anyone knows of a cost effective flight and maybe even a good hotel it would be a bonus.
Not travelling until early September if this hekps around the 8th or 9 and coming back around 15 or 160 -
Lonely Planet do a book Europe on a shoestring with great tips and ideas such as when to visit museums for free and getting the best deal on places to stay.
Look at https://www.hostelbookers.com and https://www.hostelworld.com for good value budget accommodation.
Sign up for fare alerts on all the budget airlines.
Also think about how you can cluster visiting the places that you want to see so that you can make the most of your trip. For instance if you go to Madrid you can get a train to Toledo, Segovia and even Seville.
You could also think about booking one way flights eg fly to Barcelona, travel overnight by train ( saving hotel fare) to Madrid and flying back from there. This would also work with Rome, Florence and Venice. We flew to Vienna and then got the hydrofoil to Bratislava and then a train to Budapest.
If travelling in France you can always book a through fare to another city like Strasbourg and then stop off for a couple of days in Paris on the way there or back. I'm getting carried away now!!! Enjoy0 -
Wow! Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice! :j
Got some ideas I had not thought of yet. Already starting to plan the trips ahead.
Any more tips would be great!
While I do not have a budget at the moment... suffice to say the cheaper the better.
getmore4less - We have spent the last year visiting around the UK and want to start going around Europe.
sebdangerfield - Any tips/ advice on how to do Rome and Paris without spending too much?
markandkate - Thanks for the great suggestions! Looking into the possibilities now!0
