Re-landscaping front garden & driveway question.
I wasn't sure if this was best asked in greenfingered, motoring or DIY? I'm sure it'll be moved to the right spot so here goes...
We are re-landscaping our garden bit by bit and we are using slate chippings along borders but I also want to use it down the central reservation on the driveway to 'match'. OK I guess, apart from the fact that I don't park 'centrally' on the driveway, mainly so us and visitors have more room to walk down the drive.
So my question really is... is it safe for my tyres to drive and park on these slate chippings or should I top-up what is left of the gravel?
Thanks in advance

hi
well slate is very fragile, it cracks easily and will soon crush down to dust if driven over. I suspect after a year it will be compacted mud and dust. Also as I am sure you have discovered very sharp!. I would gravel it .Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0 -
I think is depends on the size of the chippings. 20mm & 40mm should be OK for driveways. You can buy both flat and chunky slate chippings but I wouldn't recommended the chunky for a driveway.
What would look nice is polished slate http://www.decorativeaggregates.com/slate/s070/Snowdonia+Polished+Slate+20-40mm.html
They don't mention driveways though so you might be best checking whether it is suitable. You'll obviously also be paying a premium for the polishing but it does look nice.0
