Are there any benefits we can claim??

Hi all,

Just wondering if you could help.

My partner and I together last year earnt £28,000, and after thinking we could claim working tax credits we have found out we cant as we earnt over £18,000.

I was wondering if any of you know of any benefits we could claim as i am currently 7 months pregnant and am now on maternity leave and wont be going back to work next year as we have no one who could look after our baby for us. So once im off maternity pay I wont be on the £8,000 per year i am on now.

Also my partner works on a bonus scheme which means he can earn anything frm £200 a week to £450. We are now worried as we dont think we can claim anything but once im off maternity pay and if my partner has any bad weeks at work we wont be able to pay our bills???

Any help would be appreicated!

If you know your partner is likely to have weeks that his pay is low, you should save money from weeks that his pay is good. Perhaps try averaging it out over a three month period?

If you earned £28,000 between you last year, and only £8000 was your earnings, that means your partner earned £20,000. Whilst not a fortune, it is a decent wage.

Even on 20k per year you cant get working tax credits. Only child tax credits and child benefit of £20 per week.
You may qualify for some help towards childcare so you can go back to work

pretty sure you can claim maternity pay 11 weeks before your due date!
Would give http://www.parentlineplus.org.uk/ a call or visit the webpage!

We have had 2 babies in last 3 years, make sure you claim everything, money soon starts to go once baby arrives!

Hope this helps and good luck!
