re installing windows xp

Hi, i'm trying to reinstall windows xp to my compaq 11oc netbook.
the language is in spanish i want it to english,the option in languages is not there for english.
I have bought a usb cd drive, and have a xp home edition version 2002 disk.
i am trying to format it and reinstall.
i boot from disk,and go through setup and get this portion of setup program prepares xp tomrun on your pc. to set up press enter to repair press r...then
;set up as recognised the following mass storage devices on your computer ...... none
then it re starts,so i dont get the option of formating the pc.

what am i doing wrong??

    Your old(2002) disc does not contain the SATA drivers for your HDD. So you need a disc that has the correct drivers for that Motherboard. Alternatively, you can try going into the BIOS and changing from SATA mode to IDE.
