Hi all,
Bought one of the £1.49 raspberry canes from Lidls last week and planted it,it had two nice green leafy shoots on the stem until my puppy got in through the fence and chewed off the shoots and the top off the cane...grrrrr Is the raspberry a lost cause now or is it likely to shoot from the bottom? First time I've grown raspberries so dont know much about them, thanks for any help :-)

I'm guessing it will be okay as long as there was a decent root system.

If the top few inches of the main cane is 'chewed' I'd cut it back to solid wood. Keep watered and if you have grass cuttings, put a thin layer around the cane (not touching - leave an inch gap) to keep the soil moist. Add more cuttings later as needed. Raspberries (woodland plants) have a shallow root run and will throw up new canes at it travels.

Once established you'll be back on here asking how to control them (just dig them out and give to a friend).

Thankyou-hopefully i will end up with too many! I have cut the top back already (glad I did the right thing for a change) Will pop some grass clippings round it later. Thanks very much for your help
