DVD Recording - Clueless

Can someone please advise me on what the best free DVD recording software is?

Also to record to enable DVDs to be played on dvd players as a pose to PCs do I require DVD-R?

Also can anyone offer me any aditional advise?

I use Nero - their latest one is one of the best I have used.
You need a dvd rewriter (dvd-rw, dvd+rw or dvd+-rw.)

I've used a few free ones but not really found one that's like nero, other people may have though. A mate may give youy a copy of nero.

All modern dvd players will play all formats

May also want to use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter before burning. (Both free and easy to use)
