WMA to MP3 Converter

Hi, my son wants to rip some of my CD's to his MP3 player, and when we rip to the computer they are in WMA format. I'm told I need to download a converter that will change the WMA format to MP3.

Can anyone recommend one of these for me please?

I use free version of Xrecode

Windows media player will also do it, (never use WMP), but possibly Organise/Options/Rip Music/Rip Settings (Drop box)

I take it you are using Windows media player? You can change the format it rips to by clicking tools>options>rip music, then change the format to MP3 by clicking the drop down list. Then you won't have any need to convert from WMA to Mp3.

Encoding them twice will degrade the quality. What is he using to rip the CDs? most rippers will let you go direct to mp3.

Right, this is what we are using but I admit to not being very techie at all, so wasn't aware that it had that option. Will tell him tomorrow morning (he's gone to bed now) and see what we can do.

Thank you very much, I sort of thought there would be a way of doing it on WMP but couldn't find it:o

Thanks for that, you can tell I'm technologically challenged:o Will try the WMP tomorrow morning, and the Xrecode if necessary.

    Many thanks again.

Is only Windows Media Player, but it seems we may not have been doing it correctly so will try again tomorrow.

Many thanks for getting back to me.

Windows Medial Player allows you to select the format for ripping. Set it to MP3 instead of WMA and you're away.

Just popped in to thank all the helpful people who advised me last night:D

We managed to find the drop-down menu (they hid that rather well:D) and change the format to MP3, and DS2 has now downloaded his Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Bangles, Aerosmith and Guns and Roses and is a happy little headbanger:D:D

Many thanks to you all again, I really appreciate the help:beer::beer:
