hammy the hammer, that is correct.
ginger_nuts, perhaps my previous response answered your query.
In the event that it didn't, I will answer a little fuller now.
When I was younger I used to give out my number willy-nilly and used to get all kinds of calls at all kinds of hours from both the UK and abroad, it was something that at the time I enjoyed, then as I became older it became a nuisance (I know it was my own fault then and am not complaining) and when I moved I gave people a virtual number on which they could contact me instead of the real number so I could stop the calls when I couldn't be bothered to speak to people.
That changed to using a VoipIn number with several companies at one time or another, usually the cheapest to be honest, and it meant that if people wanted to call me they could call on that number, whether they got an answer or got voicemail was dependant on my mood.
There is also the factor that if it went through to one person then it could have gone through to more and perhaps this is altruistic of me, but as it is my number and I pay for the rental of it, I believe that I have the right to decide who should have it.
Close friends and immediate family members will always have my genuine number, everyone else will always have a virtual number, I learned it's the best way to be a long, long time ago.
An update
After emailing Mr Verwaayen, I received a call from the manager dealing with the case who informed me that he'd tried to get me on my mobile and been unable to. He apologised for not trying my landline.
As a temporary solution he placed my account onto Option 3 until such time as the CPS is reprovisioned to help keep the cost of the BT bill down. I accepted this as a partial solution as with the credit used on my mobile I had qualified for free weekend calls which means I could use my mobile for calling other mobiles and the solution will help for during the week.
Further investigation is being planned for yesterday and Tuesday and I will be contacted on Tuesday with a further update. I will update this thread when I have more information.0 -

I can live without that stress and god knows how many people the old number actually went through to without my knowledge who could call withheld.
Thanks for the explanation and I'm sorry to hear about your family memberIf you think that is stupid then so be it, but 100mins to mobile at peak time on CPS would cost £1
Out of interest, what CPS provider is that?

I'd like to know too - 100 minutes for £1 is 1p/minute (obviously).gt94sss2 wrote:Out of interest, what CPS provider is that?
The cheapest for calling mobiles on the MSE Callchecker is 4p/minute.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Primus Saver 2 with Penny Mobile, upto 20mins capped at 20p.
Phoning at least 4 mobiles a day during peak time would work out very expensive without Primus.0 -

OTOH, that's 20p per minute for a one minute call.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. My bills previous to going on Primus were £50+ per month, my last Primus bill was £3.09, my highest bill on Primus has been £9.39 and that included loads of international (usually make these through voipcheap/voipstunt but was having Broadband disconnections for the 10 day adsl max settling period which made voip virtually unusable) and mobile calls.
I honestly can't remember the last time that I made a call to a mobile which didn't last at least 5 minutes which matches the cheapest over-ride provider so it works out very well for me.0 -
I always get their blessed answering machines!Carl. wrote:I honestly can't remember the last time that I made a call to a mobile which didn't last at least 5 minutes which matches the cheapest over-ride provider so it works out very well for me.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. lol...take your revenge by leaving them an extra long answering machine message to make sure that you get your money's worth

I used to get a lot of that I have to admit, but once Voda PAYT became so cheap to run most of my friends/family switched and consequently so did their signal. I managed to persuade all but one to drop their voicemail too thanks to the call-catcher feature of Voda.0 -
Just a quick update...
I have been told by BT that Primus will be active on the line from 12th September.
After further discussion with the CPS department and with the Customer Options team, BT have agreed on two courses of action.
Customer Options have agreed to wipe out any and all call charges on the BT Network which should have been made on CPS from today onwards until 12th September (awaiting email confirmation). The amount to date, while minimal, is still under dispute.
CPS Carrier Division is working to see what they are able to do to bring forward the Primus "Go Live" date of 12th September.
As a side note, I have reprogrammed my phone book to add 141 before all the numbers it contains in the event of the automatic called id withholding failing again (the thing that started this whole mess). I would advise those who value their privacy to do the same in case there is a similar fault somewhere down the line with your service.0
