If you have signed the papers, you are now financailly liable for that mortgage debt - so you have as much right to say what is done with that £60k as he does! Sorry, but suggesting he uses a debt taken in your name to pay his bills seems odd to me.

He has tied you to this, so it is time to put your foot down. I agree with Tine - time to hit your Dad with the kipper.

    Good luck sweetheart x

  • I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your kind support and advice.

This morning I wasn't sure what to do but you all have helped opened my eyes to the fact that in the end its too risky for all of us. I feel you have given me the confidence to go and speak to him.

I just have to find a Kipper!!!

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Kippers are usually available at all good fishmongers :) but frankly any fish will do if you write "financial reality" or something across it it might even pass as a kipper!

Anyway well done you and let us know how you get on :)

This is the kind of thing you're after, I believe ;)

Seriously though, good for you

The confidence was always in you... we just gave it a nudge I'm sure ;)

Perhaps 'get yourself a kipper' should become code for 'helping' someone to have their lightbulb moment?! :rotfl:

    Hi Pinksugar

How much do you think the house is worth? Will it be enough to clear all the debt and buy something small for your parents to live in?

I really feel for you. :grouphug: This is a huge amount of debt for your parents to have when facing retirement, I don't know their income, but it would have to be very large to meet these sort of repayments. Are they using the cc to live, for food etc?

I have just snowballed £40K of cc debt and if they have to pay 2% off a month the minimum payment is £800 with interest at 14% £450.

Goodluck talking to your Dad I know how difficult it is, but they have involved you and this has to be sorted as soon as possible. I think I would put the £60K back towards the mortgage if possible to reduce the secured debt.
