BT Vision Box - how to use?

Hi,

Please can anyone tell me how a BT Vision box works? We have been given one and don't have a phone line but would like to use it as a freeview box only. Will it work just as a normal freeview box to received channels or must we have a phone line to make it work?

This is for an elderly relative who has no need/cannot afford a fixed line and just needs to improve her TV receiption with a freeview box.

If it can be used pls can anyone explain how to set it up/tune it in/get it working?

dont think so,I think they are fed their signal over broadband

how do you expect a freeview box to improve reception?

bt vision boxes only work if connected to a bt hub.

Many thanks for the helpful replies - I feared as much! Ah well, just have to buy a freeview box then... relative in question has moved to sticksville in Devon and everyone uses Sky or Freeview apparently as ordinary aerials don't work very well.

Ummm, you need a very good aerial to receive Freeview.
If the analogue signal is poor digital terrestrial reception will be non existent.

Unless of course the area has been switched.

Devon has switched, starting early May 09.

My kitchen TV (from skip) + £9.99 Freeview box runs on about 500mm of old copper speaker cable, perfect on all the channels available in this area,

What about basic Freesat?
