Can I leave my greenhouse open overnight?

Hello folks.

Hopefully someone will be able to help with this. I am going away for the weekend having been opening my greenhouse every day and closing it every night.

Will it be ok at this ime of year to leave the greenhouse open overnight for a couple of nights? In it I've got cucumbers, tomatoes and chillies. And by open I mean both the roof vent and the door, because it got too hot in there today with just the roof vent open.

I think the forecast tomorrow night is min 11 degrees..

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't have a greenhouse yet, but if I did I think I would definitely leave it all open while you're away. The next few days are going to be sweltering, and the nights very mild, so I would absolutely leave it open. I'd imagine more harm would be done by leaving it closed in these coming hot temperatures...

  • Thanks guys, I'll leave it open in that case. No real fruit is growing yet anyway so hopefully cats or birds wont be a problem :) Was just a bit worried about the cold.

Cold, Cold  What part of the world you in?? If you leave the door shut and you get the sun all your plants will either scorch become leggy and wilt. I havent closed the doors on my greenhouse for weeks now it will help your plants to harden off.

Erm, Rosco is in Scotland, same as me, and I can assure you we have not been as lucky with the weather up here as further south. Been shivering in my shoes up here while others on here are experiencing a heatwave I believe. Not been too bad today though for a change.

Keep the door closed at night. I'm near Edinbugh and close the door every night except if it's been an exceptionally warm day (22/23c - yes, that's warm...). Just remember to open it in the morning.

If you are worried about heat it helps to keep humidity up wash the floor with water and or keep flat containers with some water in some it evaporates

It should be safe to keep GH open now but I put something over door like a wire mesh to keep animals out like cats
