What shall I do with this area? Pic included
Hi guys,
Not sure what to do with the front of the house. The rear is coming on a treat with veg patch and planting (updated pics next week) but the fronts really letting our house down. As you can see from third pic, I've pulled up one of the crazy paving slabs and a good 1/2m is thin soil.
Is it OK to rip up the paving and lay turf (I understand sprin/autumn are best for this however if all prepared and watered would it be OK to complete now with a flower bed on the hedge side....... at the front we have a hydrangea, azalea and fushia........
Thoughts please! Many thanks in advance

You don't mention whether you have budget constrictions, or what amount of work you want to put into the front garden... it's good that you have a decent space there to do stuff with.
Purely personal opinion, if it were mine, I would turf the middle and have flower beds all the way around. I would then use all of the crazy paving slabs to build a chunky raised bed somewhere in the back garden, laying them flat on top of each other like you would bricks... and fill it with something colourful
You could even make the raised bed in the front garden, down one of the sides, to add a bit of height and interest. Or do it across the front, using the brick wall as one of the sides... not sure about weight of soil against the brick wall though..?"Your life is what your thoughts make it"

a lawn would be nice, espcially if you planted daisies and buttercups into it and had it as a wild flower meadow. Or you could plant lots of colourful flowers and have a few stepping stones inbetween. Or a herb garden."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

I would go for a 10 foot fountain smack bang in the centre. Seriously though, a lawn would definitely be a good start even if you don't decide on anything afterwards. Maybe smash up the concrete and make a dry wall about a foot high alongside the driveway.0

Dig up that stone, lay a load of grass seed and in few weeks will look good. Id sick up a bamboo and a screen to the front.Kind Regards

I will aim to do all the work myself and to a low budget. I was thinking along with the bed by the bush, Literally laying the turf
laying seed but your idea of all the way round is a great one. Possible 3/4 way around apart from the drive incase we have a wayward driver!

Cheers for that, nice idea with th smashing of the crazy paving! Right, now to take it all up! This weeks job. And whether to lay turf or seed!?0 -
How much sun does it get? Just wondering with the hedges and shade (first photo looks a bit dark) whether a lawn would get a bit patchy moss-ridden?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
South facing so gets all the sun

Forgot to mention, the area at present is used for nothing and the driveway is used albeit irregularly.0
