Abbey-Ridiculous amount of charges!

I just got my bank statement and unfortunately I went over my overdraft by 21p. I have just seen that they are going to charge me £50 in charges for this. I cannot believe it, they will not refund any charges because they refunded charges back in march. I am so furious , I just dont know what else I can do....can anyone else help me , it will be greatly appreciated :money:.

  • Ask nicely for the £50 to be returned. If they say no, find an alternative current account provider and then ask nastily for the £50 back? I.e threaten them with a small claims action?

Yes, but I have only done it twice in 6yrs that I have had the account. The first time round was because a company had taken about £80 from my account via direct debit and this was a mistake. The company in question actually paid me back the bank charges but it was not my fault. So this really is my first time. Abbey dont really care if the first time was a mistake or not! £50 is a bit excessive for going over so little!!

  • Whether they have refunded charges before or not it is still illegal, threaten to take the matter to court, and if they refuse go through with it. Someone did it to Abbey a few months back and won, they claimed to have received no correspondance and didn't know anything about the court case. It ended up with the guy in the paper threatening to send bailiffs into his local branch.
