Tom Tom One sat nav Q

(not sure if in right forum, please feel free to move if not) - my dad has seen this advertised at PC World, currently for £199.99 - has asked for my opinion and I don't know the first thing about sat nav. Does anyone know if this is a good system? Do you need to keep downloading road updates? and finally, is this a good price or can you find it cheaper? thanks.J

  • IMHO TomTom one is a great entry level Sat Nav system, I also believe £199 to be a good price, maybe someone else can find it cheaper, I couldn't without going to Flea Bay.
  • Bought one a couple of months ago. The price you quote is probably as good as you will get at the minute.

Better place to get all sorts of useful info is here. Go the the forums and search out the one for Beginners and also the one for TomTom One/Go in the All-in-One section. So much info to be gleaned from that site its not true. Also the place to get your speed (sorry, safety) camera downloads once you've bought the system.

Update: I'm reliably informed this link and promo code work.

Go to www.curys.co.uk and get the One for £199, enter the promo code PERK20 to get £20 off. Includes free delivery.

These have been well reviewed, and I have been delighted with mine.

Seems to be quite sensitive (I even get a signal indoors), and the fact it has a full postcode search was a clincher.

Hi, i posted this yesterday but it didn't seem to work. I bought a tom tom one yesterday online from currys. The advertised price is £199, if you use the code PERK20 you get it for £179 with free p&p. The only way to find it on the website is if you type in the item no. which is 058534, type this in the box that says i am looking for. Hope this helps.
  • I have had a tom tom for years now.

Let me tell you, they are AMAZING :)

I've just turned 19 but during my first year of uni at stafford was driving to leeds, edinburgh, london, milton keynes, walsall, kidderminster, st andrews etc.. used the tom tom for all the places and NOT ONCE did it go wrong for me :)

You can download the speed camera database legally for about £2 from pocketgps.com (i think thats the url.. too lazy to check..) and it comes with easy instructions on how to stick them on your tom tom.

As for maps.. they dont update at all, but you dont need them to :) only if there are MAJOR motorway changes or road changes for your area would you need to worry about buying an upgrade.. as i siad, had mine for a long time now and still working perfectly!
