The quality of Tesco's own brand foods?

We never shop at Tesco's but were up that way last week so decided to pop in and i'm not impressed with there own brand foods, obviously there are some things you can't really go wrong with, the likes of frozen chips, baked beans etc all are fine, But on Sunday had a bit of silver side, it was one of the worst cuts I've ever come across, it was like chewing a tyre, the meat was full of fat throughout the meat, not just the visible bits at the outsides.
Also had there flame grilled burgers that they have on offer at the min, they where full of gristle and not the nicest tasting burgers I've ever had.
Had there own brand multipack crisps, every bag had a funny sort of taste and again not very nice.
This is just a few examples, and i'm not a fussy person, I shop at Iceland and eat there muck without many complaints but I don't think i'll be buying Tesco's own brand foods again.
Anyone else have issues with Tesco's own brand foods?

Their red meat tastes like vomit. I only buy branded goods from Tesco and get my meat from Sainsburys.0

you fayred better than i do
i wouldnt eat their chips or beans either:(
we buy nothing "value" at Tesco0 -
I get their value chocolate digestives, they are quite nice.
I've given up on meat from there and Asda though, it's too tough and fatty.
I get the meat from Morrisons or online from Donald Russell.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Some Tesco own brand/value is fine but I would never buy the red meat, it is local all the way for us!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I agree, meat from Tesco and Asda is horrible. Waitrose, Sainsburys and M&S can be hit and miss too.
I find that Morrisons red meat is tastiest by far.0 -
I have to agree with most posts, but I would try a lot of the Tesco own for non-meat products. Not their beans, as I do seem to only like heinz (others taste too sugary).
Its strange, I never minded the meat products until my better half started taking me to Waitrose (I just thought it was overpriced) and the meat is just so much tastier.0 -
We buy quite a bit of own brand and value stuff and never really had a problem with their meat. I think the only thing we actually avoid is their Value coffee. My boyfriend drinks a lot of coffee (about 300g a week!) He usually has Tesco own brand which he says tastes ok, so we tried switching to the Value to save some money - Never Again!
Made up the first cup, and had to actually go and check the jar to make sure I hadn't bought gravy granules by mistake - it really did smell and taste that bad lol - and our new word for value coffee of any supermarket is "groffee"::: Total Paid Since LBM (27/05/10): £4639.85 Official Debt Gone!! :T ::::AThat money talks, I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"~ VSP2011: #104 ~

Tescos stuff isnt good. Sainsburys Basics range was an absolute godsend when I found it. I once had a tin of peaches from tescos with none in it, only juice. And twice I've been sick after eating their cakes.0

At Tesco, I find the following 'Value' things to be fine:
Tea bags (just use 2 instead of 1)
Coffee
Bread
Beans
Chips
Icecream
Pot noodles
Chopped tomatos
Crisps
Orange juice
Chocolate
Nuts (especially the peanuts!)
Stock cubes
Lemonade
Theres probably more but I cant think of anything right now. I find their 'Value' products are fine. We're really short of money so I guess to be fair anything tastes good to us though xD0 -
I like quite a lot of tesco own brands, all the biscuits I've tried I prefer to big name brands, tinned toms tinned spagehetti, stock cubes, coffee, teabags, some tinned fruit like peaches, pineapple and grapefruit, chocolate bars, some cereals, ice lollies, ginger beer and lots more I can't think of right now.0
