Get a 1GB stick of RAM. It shouldn't cost more than 20 quid and fitting it is very easy. Go to Crucial and run the System Scanner, It'll tell you what RAM you've got, what you can fit and how much it'll cost.

I've got XP on my laptop and i'm very happy with it. Once you boost the RAM on your system It'll fly along.

As a back up computer the hard drive should be adequate but you can always get an external hard drive which can be used either with your existing system or this old one.

Thanks, it is £86.93 for 1GB, have checked on crucial. com. Will have to check how much the local computer shop will charge. It is quite a good computer if it is not too expensive, I might upgrade.

You don't need 1GB (does it support that much?), another 128 or 256 will speed it up dramatically, and you can get away with the existing 128 on it's own if you chip away at all the extraneous applications running at startup.

Don't see the point of spending loads of money on a rarely used backup pc, just give the startup apps a spring clean, or if you have the xp discs, reinstall windows.
