Ernest Jones - Engagement Ring problem
Diddles19
My engagement ring is 18 ct white gold and 15 months old, it had brown spots on it and is wearing at the back. We took it back to the shop and they sent it to be replated and have it assessed. They now say there is not a problem with it although the assistant compared it to another ring and agreed it was wearing. We have complained through their head office and again they say there is nothing wrong with it, it is normal wear and tear against a wedding ring. We have only been married for 9 months and we bought our wedding rings from them as well. What can I do I am so upset?

Well, to put your mind at ease. There is nothing wrong with it. White gold is simply yellow gold that is Rhodium plated. The Rhodium will come off over time and to keep it looking "new" you'll need to get it re-coated every 12-24 months depending on wear. It's the biggest flaw with any white gold jewelry. You'll just have to accept it...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I know that white gold doesn't keep its bright white colour, but for it it wear of in 9 months because of my wedding ring thats also 18ct white gold!!
My big problem is that the actual ring is wearing thin and they wont admit there is a problem even though the assistant in the shop agreed with us. They just say its normal wear against my wedding ring.0
