Which is the Daddy of all weed control fabrics?
We spent a back breaking Summer a couple of years ago, cutting out the mess that was laughingly referred to as a lawn and we laid weed control fabric that was touted as THE best thing since sliced bread, before putting down stones on top.
It was thicker than the bog standard stuff and supposedly had a coating that helped suppressed weed growth but 2 years later and the weeds are flourishing just lovely.
So time to rake back and re-do.
What's the absolute all singing all dancing weed control fabric out there these days?

alias - we are thinking about putting gravel down on our back garden - but wonder about controlling the weeds? How have you found it in general? O/h is worried about the local cats/dogs using it as a toilet. Thing is we've already killed all the grass in readiness, so guess we are gonna have to do something now :rotfl:

Well I don't know if our local cats are fussier than most or not, but they have never used the gravel or stones as a toilet. They do however, use a long planter I have sat on top of the stones. Pains in the bum they are.
I'm still glad we did this, on the whole it's much easier to maintain and you can ring the changes with potted plants etc if you want to. The garden looks tidy (most of the time, lol) and it's also good with regard to security. We had people digging up our plants and nicking them at one point but now with the stones down, they can't get into the garden without being heard so we've never had anymore bother.
I do think we simply bought the wrong product at the time. We believed the DIY shop chap and I now think he was telling us a load of rubbish tbh. I've been reading up this afternoon and this stuff is measured in gsm and the better versions are a lot denser than the stuff we used. The likes of B&Q and our local garden centres just stock the standard average stuff but you can get heavier weight stuff online.
The heaviest weight on the high street I've found near us so far is 100gsm but you can get 105 / 108 /126 online.
My problem now is because we're in the Highlands, they charge a premium price for delivering the stuff.I don't mind shelling out for the product but the delivery is what makes me think twice.
Ah well, procrastinating over buying the stuff will delay the inevitable hard work that will follow it's arrival.Herman - MP for all!0 -
We bought some that was on a roll and had copper running through it.
It seems to be doing the job. Think it came from Focus DIY.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200
