Adult Learning Grant (ALG)

Hi everybody :hello:
I'm the EMA Co-ordinator at Birmingham College of Food and wanted to bring people's attention to a new study allowance - The Adult Learning Grant (ALG).
It's currently only a pilot scheme - intended to 'go national' in September 2007, but it's pretty widespread already... I'm taking on the administration of ALG where I work from September 2006, but there are many people who don't seem to know anything about it - I only heard about it myself in April/May!
It's aimed at people aged 19+ studying in further education, full-time, towards their first Level2/Level3 qualification.
NB: You CAN'T get it alongside income support, 'out of work' allowances (JSA / incapacity benefit, etc.) or other government training allowances.
But if the learner's annual income is less than £11,500 (single) or £30,000 (co-habiting), they should consider applying.
The official website provides more information and lists the areas already running the scheme:
https://www.adultlearninggrant.com
Plus there are 2 learner helplines: 0845 456 0027 / 0845 456 0028
I guess the main uptake will be by young people who are just that bit too old to qualify for EMA, but still live with their parents... Although mature learners shouldn't rule it out!!
Hope people find this useful... x

Is it really only a pilot? I thought it was well established. It's been here in Cornwall for two years, excellent scheme. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130
