Ryanair customers will soon have to pay £80 to take a second bag on a flight, after the budget airline announced plans this week to increase its baggage charges over the summer.
Ryanair said that during July and August it will increase its charge for the first bag checked in from £35 to £40, and the second bag from £75 to £80.
Meanwhile, for people who check in via the Ryanair website charges will increase from £15 to £25 for the first bag and from £35 to £40 for the second.

I never bother with any of the budget airlines as by the time you've factored in:
- baggage charges
- booking fees
- fee for booking on a Thursday when the moon is in its third quarter
- time and cost of getting to somewhere annoying like Stansted or Luton
- time and cost of getting to your hotel from some of the random satellite airports they fly you into
you may as well book with a proper airline, where it won't be a screaming bunfight free-for-all when boarding. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
TBF people, women, do pack far too much and it is annoying when you only go away for a few weeks in the year but the other 50 you spend weight lifting so you can be a gentleman and carry her suitcase.0

As the boss of Ryanair keeps saying, "if you don't like us, take your business elsewhere".0

Ryanairs slightly opaque pricing and bad service are not exactly a secret, the company practically make a selling point of it, and people keep flocking to them.0

The business model may have to be revised anyway. If the plans to tax planes rather passengers is introduced. As RA will have to recover the cost even though the plane may be well under passenger capacity. Increasing seat prices from a nominal base over time isn't necessarily going to cover costs.0 -
Haven't checked the data but I believe ryanair's model has the planes flying fairly full cf ba who will fly less full to protect the revenue of the seats they do sell (I am sure competion theory would say this may be dependent on the level of competition on each route type)
Some how it does not seem right that those who require certain 'additonal' services such as airport check in (may be the less digitally aware) or baggage (families, those travelling for longer periods) or even standard payment methods are expected to cross-subsidise those who know how to play the system to minimise such costs. My local Sainsburys doesn't charge me extra for using a trolley with child seats rather than a hand basket or for paying with a credit card rather than some obscure hard to obtain pre-pay mastercard (or whatever Ryanair are offering for no-surchare payment method at the moment so they can get round the EU requirement to quote 'all-inclusive' prices)I think....0 -

This alone does it for me, as I live within a convenient distance of Heathrow and Gatwick. By the time I factor in transport and/or parking costs it's no cheaper to fly Ryanair than BA or others.
It's really annoying, actually, as one day I would like to follow Martin's advice on how to jump through all O'Leary's hoops and genuinely get a flight for silly money like £5. Purely for the satisfaction of knowing that pr*ck is making a loss on me.0 -
I personally avoid them like the plague. I do need to take luggage, so they are really expensive for me.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Easyjet don't charge for hand luggage ( 56x45x25cms) and don't put a cap on the weight.Which I think is more than adequate.0
