Oil for Garden Furniture

After a a protracted saga with Argos over the past year, we've finally had our patio table and chairs replaced with a nice new set. The new set seems slightly different to the old in that it needs to be oiled once a month for the first 3 months and then once a year subsequently. A 'hardwood oil and lint-free cloth' are suggested.
I found teak oil and linseed oil at B&Q as possibilities. However, both come with rather scary warnings that rags / clothes soaked with the oil might self-combust!
Can anyone tell me how much of risk there actually is (are B&Q just covering their backs?). Also, any recommendations of an alternative oil / product which is a bit safer?

Cheers,

Michael

What wood is the furniture made of? if Argos I would guess Acacia wood or similar rather than teak.

Oil based products for garden will generally carry the flammable warning. Just soak the cloths in water afterwards to remove much of the oil
  • you can buy a spray can of "hardwood furniture protector" its made by Cuprinol. No need to rags!!

This is fairly standard wording so do not worry. The oils are not extremely volatile like petrol.

I would suggest Outdoor Danish Oil instead of teak and linseed because it will help retain the colour better. The two you mentioned soak into the wood and protect it but leave the surface exposed.
