A suggestion - drive as far as Yeovil , park in/out of town where long stay is allowed. then catch a 376 bus to Glastonbury - bus, hitch or taxi to festival site at Pilton. Mooch around all night - the transport back to Yeovil will be stopped by 9ish I guess - or get a taxi/lift back to Yeovil.
Yeovil to Bristol is quite an easy drive or bus (376/377) (the train is dire) but the shops there aren't that special, just like any other big mall. I live near Yeovil and there are some cool shops and areas in Yeovil itself!0 -
I won the tickets and they're in my name only so it has to be hubby and I that use them, the only acts we really like are on the Friday so don't see the point of staying for the rest of the days and don't really want to camp out...I might have to take a tent just in case we get stuck and keep a keen eye on the weather and traffic!
The tangerine fields looks like a good alternative if we were staying throughout !
Well done on winning the tickets!
Can i ask if you like comedy (radio 4 to new talent), theatre, spoken word, crafts (want to learn stonemasonry or weaving?), environmental issues, debates, alternative therapies (professional massge for 10pounds), circus, jazz, world dance ect...
If so, glastonbury festival really isnt all about the music at all. it's actually the largest performing arts festival, and the theatre, comedy and circus areas are the largest area of the festival and showcase world class talent. maybe all the music isnt for you, but you might be surprised at what else is avalible. have a good noodle around the website's other areas to see...
all foods under the sun are avalibe there
oh and i'd definaltely take a tent even if none of this appeals - just in case there is a problem with the roads like last year - though it could be an hours walk from a campsite to your car, if not longer if you are late pitching.
good luck and feel free to pm me with any questions (i work there!)Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
thanks everyone for all of the help, we're going up to bristol on thursday night and traveling down to the festival on friday morning, don't mind spending a few hours in traffic, we have a tent just in case we want to stay and some proper boots if it gets wet and muddy! Getting excited now!Yes Your Dukeiness0

We went through Pilton last weekend and I seriously could not believe how large the whole thing is! Car parks upon car parks for miles surrounding the site - all being security manned as well.
You might be lucky with the weather - so far, the forecast for the weekend is hot & sunny!0 -

A temporary city the size of Newcastle arrives to rural Somerset every year - the ticket-holders, staff, volunteers, stall holders etc etc - and with remarkably few incidents considering the population. I wonder if we'll get a Pilton baby born this year? (it happens every so often!)0 -
