Urgent: GoCompare car insurance has no option for 'unemplyed'

Hi,

I'm literally in the middle of an online application as we speak, for car insurance, and GoCompare has no option for 'unemployed' (which I am, although not registered as unemployed with the Job Shop) nor 'housewife' (which I am not).

I've read Martins guide on occupations, but can't seem to find a suitable name. There IS 'housekeeper', although not sure what this means.

Any suggestions on a suitable (and available) option?

I just started a new quote and on the second page in the right hand column it asks:
Full-time employment status
and it has the option "Unemployed"

I've just had a look and there is an 'unemployed' option?

The drop down list says:-

Employed
Self-employed
Retired
Unemployed
Full Time Education

Etc

But later, it asks for occupation and nature of business - it would not accept 'unemployed' (as this is not in their list). It isn't possible to leave it blank - it won't let you move on until this has been completed!

There IS 'housekeeper', although not sure what this means.

That is a job. You still come across house keepers from time to time but its not as common as it was in the past, in the same way servants arent as common nowadays.

No. Select unemployed from the first drop down list, and then answer no to any part time jobs. That is the end of the employment questions.

I guess it's not so Urgent then as OP has not returned?

Hi All, Well I'm back! Just to say that it was so urgent, that I gave up part way, and seeing Martins paragraph about First Direct offering to undercut any existing renewal quote by 10%, picked up the phone and had a long conversation (their online quote would have charged me something in the region of £500-600!). Eventually, I paid £222.00. I went through all the comparison sites (as per Martins guidance), and then the cashback sites, with the nearest good deal (if you can call it that...) was More Than, at £277. So, by actually talking to First Direct, I managed to get a nicer deal. Thanks, Martin! (although I find it bizzare how some people can pay 69p etc. - I wonder what their criteria is).

Just want to say that my existing insurer would not haggle with me - they obviously didn't want my money, AND I told them that I was intending to approach another provider that would undercut them! I actually gained £23 by moving away, and whilst compared to others accounts this doesn't appear much, it means in fact soooo much to me - event penny counts!
