My shower might have blown up!

Apparently, (i wasnt there at the time) when my shower was turned on it didnt work and smelt of burning!

I guess I am going to need to get a new shower, any idea of the costs I might be looking at to get someone to remove the old one and fit a new one. (not including the cost of the shower)

Would i be better to ask who ever does it to get me a shower or buy one myself?

I have no idea, the only saving grace is that I work part time at a letting agent, so hopefully can use one of the trades people from work, prob wont be any cheeper but at least i know they should be ok. Dont go to work until tomorrow though, so have to wait until then to find out who is best to call.

Thanks for any help

Presuming all the plumbing and wiring is up to spec then it'll be a quick a simple job. Should take a good plumber/electrician more than 2 hours max. Looking about £100 for a decent bog spec eleci shower itself.

Thank you! Stupid question, but would i need a plumber or an electrician or both?

The house has fairly new wiring, about 5 years old i think, so hopefully that should be ok.

The wiring will possibly need uprating if you install a more powerful shower, it's not just a matter of replacing the shower unit itself. which is why you need someone who is qualified to look at it.
What rating is the existing shower?

If you want to buy a direct replacement (same rating) then you'll need to check that out.

Ok, the electrician said the old shower was fried, that does not sound good. It was a 9.5 kw one, his going to give me a figure for replacing and fitting a new one tomorrow, but he said i can buy one and he would fit that too.

Any ideas on a good 9.5kw shower?

I fit a lot of Mira Sport, customers are generally very pleased with them.
