As for compost it needs loads I reckons 4-5 (70 litres) bags of multi purpose so around £12-£18. You could mix with soil, home made compost or soil improver

We bought three last week. They are not pre-drilled for the screws but OH soon had that sorted.:j

Each one took two 60 litre bags of compost and approx 90 litres of rotted manure. We lifted turf then single dug the soil underneath incorporating the compost and manure in with it. The seeds are in now and I can't wait till they grow - my first year at vegetable growing!!

For what it's worth, they have what looks like the same thing here (whitehall garden centre). Slightly more expensive at £14.99 but still seems pretty reasonable.
