Help Needed Please Connection Problems

Help needed please I had a problem yesterday on my computer telling my data bases needed updating.Everytime i clicked on fix it keeps coming back telling me incorrect user name/ password and also micro soft is saying that my virus protection might be turned off.Now i can not get on internet at all .The computer was given to me by my daughter who is on holiday at the moment but has told me the user name and pass word she gave me is correct At the moment i am on my wives lap top. I have done windows diagnostics and has detected a problem with the Winstock Provider Catalog .Also it saying i have a Https error 12007 microsoft could not connect .Any help would would be appreciated as i am not very techie Thank You MackMick

Can you open your antivirus software?

You can give this a try, Go to Start>>Run then type cmd

When the command prompt opens, type the following lines one at a time pressing enter after each.

netsh int ip reset

netsh winsock reset catalog

Then see if you can connect to the internet.

I would like to see if their could be some malware causing this.


Download and Run Mbr.exe from gmer (can't postthe link)

• Please download and save it on your desktop.
  
• Go to Start >> Run then copy and paste the following line into the run box
  "%userprofile%\desktop\mbr.exe" -t
• Select Run when you recieve a Security Warning
  
• The process is automatic, a black DOS window will appear and disappear suddenly. This is normal.
  
• A log file will the be created on your desktop where you ran mbr.exe from.
  
• Copy and paste the contents of mbr.log on your next reply.

Hi Biker sorry i have only just read your last post. I have solved the problem i done a restore to an earlier date and it seems to have solved the problem .But i do intend to run malware bytes full scan Thank you very much for all your help and advice Mackmick:beer:
