seeking advice on scrappage deals and how to reduce car costs
Our 17-year-old 8-seater diesel Toyota Estima is coming to the end of its life. It was in an accident last year which left the rear door dented, and now the exhaust is going. So I don't think it has any resale value.
We are looking to replace it with a smaller (5-seater) car that is cheap to run. We are on a tight budget so running/insurance costs are a priority.
I've seen ads for 'scrappage' offers, including on second hand cars, and wonder if this is an option for us.
I would be grateful for any advice on how to replace our car in the most cost-effective fashion! Thanks to anyone who can help.

Scrappage has now ended, so any deal being offered is either dated or an alternative?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

The official " scrappage scheme " has ended, anything advertised since is just sales hype.0

Go to a dealer thats claiming to be doing a swappage/scrappage/add 2k to a car but give a 2k trade in scheme, price up a car, then check the car places that arnt. They'll probably come in around the same price overall.0

I'm not sure of the budget - we will have to borrow. What is a reasonable amount to spend for a second-hand small car in good nick?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
