Tax credit renewal problem

I have been trying to renew my tax credits via the phone, I have always done it this way but this year the line is always busy. I get a short message telling me to call back later and then I get the engaged signal.
Is anyone having any luck getting through?

I am not sure about sending the form back to them as I have put my income in my husbands box and vice versa. I only write them on the paper as reference when I phone up!!!!
Would they accept the form if I write a covering letter explaining what I have done? I cant even phone up to ask for another form as I cant get through!!!

Any ideas?

you could still send the form although they are automatically scanned so the figures would end up in the wrong place however it shouldnt affect your award because the total household income will still be correct. you could then call them back once things quieten down to swap the figures round.
the line isnt likely to get any quieter before the deadline, it seems to be a lot worse this year probably due to the fact they havent been recruiting staff in contact centres in last 12 months but still plenty of staff leaving.

The first time I rang it was engaged, then I rang back, was told to try later, third time I got through, that was about 6 weeks ago - good luck.
