Is it wrong to apply for a temporary job, knowing you can't work it all?

If an employer is not offering a permanent contract, they must and do understand the risk that the employee will leave before the end of the fixed term - if not to go to uni, then to go to another job with greater longevity. So I would have no scruples about applying for the job, OP. Good luck.0

There is no harm in applying for the job and asking, you will accrue holidays whilst working so maybe you could agree to take the last 2 weeks as leave. I once applied for a job advertised as full time when I only wanted part time, I discussed it at interveiw and guess what...GOT THE JOB!!!! Spent 3 happy years there before relocating xx0

Personally I think it quite sad that you care about no-one outside of your own family, but each to their own - you obviously have a very supportive family who are able to provide you with all you need in life. Long may that continue.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0

I think in this economic situation you have to be ruthless and take what you can get, you are hardly going to damage the company you will be working for by leaving two weeks early.0

Please let me know when morals can put food on the table, cloth your kids or pay the bills, when this occurs I will then put morals before income.
Someone I know has worked hard and loyally for her employer for 4 years. Due to no fault of her own she has hit hard times (husband ran off) and her house is about to be reposessed. In response to her loyalty and fair treatment to them over the past few years, her employer have offered to buy her house and rent it out to her. In turn she will now work even harder, and even more loyally.
What goes around comes around. Relationships between employee and employer can either be based on an upwards spiral, or a downwards one. I know which I prefer, and which I believe is the most beneficial to both parties.0 -
Part of me thinks be honest and tell them what you're planning, the other part of me thinks as a few others have said they won't think twice about just getting rid of you if they're not busy enough etc. My GF was employed by 3 agencies on temp jobs, 1 advertised it as a permanent job which suddenly became temp when she was offered the job. All 3 have got rid of people (including my GF) when the company suddenly didn't become busy enough. One sacked my GF when she got to a week's holiday that she'd booked which they'd agreed to at the interview. They don't think twice about getting rid of people if they're not needed.0

I completely agree, companies sometimes have to make commercial decisions and do what is best for the organisation rather than for each of the individuals within it.
But in the face of those commercial decisions, who are they going to feel most loyal to: the employees who have demonstrated loyalty to them, or the employees who have used and abused them?0 -
Good lord, have you NEVER worked for a decent employer who does as they would be done by? Believe it or not, they do exist!
Probably, but even the best employer will probably take that same stance against an employee who obviously demonstrates little/no respect for the employer in return"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

My point exactly. Positive breeds positive, negative breeds negative.
And in this instance, two negatives never equal a positive!0
