Electric water heater switch (Want to fit timer & Fault)

Hi guys,

I live in an apartment and have electricity only coming into the building.

My water heater is controlled by a switch which I have recently had to replace as the other one died. Since the new switch was put in by me, the red light indicator is always on whether the switch is set to ON or OFF. The switch works properly with regard to heating and not heating but am wondering why the light is always on?

Secondly..

I'd like to fit some sort of "Timer" to this switch but have no idea what is available and how easy it would be to fit ? Can anyone help ?

Thanks i'll check it out :)

Any idea on the Timer ?
  • Hi,

something like this will do the job, if your on economy 7 then set it to come on near the end of the cheap rate, though, I would expect if you are on economy 7 there would already be a timer, so just ignore that.

You should be able to mount it in the heater cupboard, out of sight.

    Look interesting thanks.

Not quite sure I understand the bit about setting it to come on at the end of the cheap rate though ?

There is no timer for anything in the property other than the auto switching for day and night rates

If your cheap night rate ends at say 7.00 am, then the timer needs to be set to come on at about 5.00 am and go off at say 6.45 am.
