If I'm allergic can I return it?

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping for a bit of advice...
I recently bought some sun cream from Tesco, which is for sensitive skin, and I've used it twice and its making my skin sore and itchy. I'd say I'm allergic to it and I'm not going to use it again (obviously) but can I take it back? I have the receipt still I think.
There's usually a phone number on things you can ring to talk to the manufacturer but there isn't one, so should I go to Cust Services in store or....

No harm asking, but you're not legally entitled0

No product can claim to be non allergic to everybody so i dont think thats an issue but it may well be faulty and still worth a try.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
The only recourse that you'd have from a legal standpoint is if you have specifically asked whether the cream was suitable for somebody with a particular condition. The wording "sensitive skin" could mean a massive range of different types of skin.
You could ask, but given that it doesn't sound like there is a "fault" per se and given that it's a consumable product, you'll be appealing to their better nature.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. thats so weird you should post about this - my neice and her 3 year old son have had the same allergic reaction as you have- it was tesco's own brand sun cream for sensitive skin
my neice just threw the stuff away thinking it just didn't suit them - but they are not normally the type of family who suffers from allergies
i wonder if there is something amiss with the batch0 -
I can't speak for all stores or company policy, but AFAIK we'd refund it

If you have unopened bottles then perhaps.
A lot of large chains do have a policy of refunding any item if you aren't happy with it. I think I remember seeing on one product which could have been from Sainsbury's. "We hope you are satisfied with your purchase but if you are not completely happy for any reason please return the item to the store and we will cheerfully refund you". I'm not sure if the cheerfulness if guaranteed, but you get the picture!
In any case, you aren't alone. My Mum bought two big bottles of Soltan Sun cream from Boots for her holidays and after the first use her face swelled up! She didn't take them back to the shop, they just went in the bin.0 -
Regardless of the legalities, Tesco will almost certainly refund you.0

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I sucked up my courage (I HATE returning things) and took it to customer service, who "raised a fault" with it on their computer and gave me a full refund. Lovely ladies too. Yay!0

Hey, so Tesco also phoned me and talked through the reaction I had to the suncream, and then sent me out a reactions questionaire (which asked me about similar reactions I might have had) and a £15 moneycard for Tesco. Result!0
