Used a mixture of above advice (thanks so much guys), so fingers crossed it worked.
Already had about 10-15 cm of compostables at bottom, covered with a bit of cardboard and wet, put layer of straw, layer of more compostables, and then a mixture of compost and topsoil (dug from garden).
And it didn't cost me apart from the compost - and I only used a couple of bags. Straw cost me a couple of jars of jam, and OH has decided to put slat down on the garden so needed some soil digging out - am a happy bunny
Now to decide what is going where... I have some Broad beans, Runner Beans, and french beans which I think will go up the back, and kale, purple sprouting broccoli, chard.. will have to research heights and crop rotation...
