I agree - you need to talk to your parents. You could be putting them at risk too, if they need you to get a mortgage. It will be better to discuss it now, whilst things can still be changed.
Good LuckI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hello,
Money problems are not a valid reason to have such bad thoughts. Try and think of it has having hit rock bottom and now the only way is up. Your parents will probably rant and rave but when the dust settles they will still care about you and their granchild. If they did not they would not have helped you in the first place. I have a son who is a total idiot with money and spent £90k in 8 months (got divorced, sold house money was equity). I still love him even if I hate his attitude to money.0 -
Congratulations! You have placed one foot on the path to freedom from debt!
I agree with the above posters. Did your parents buy the cottage for cash or did they get a mortgage? If it was the latter then I daresay that they will be prepared to wait for the money, if it was a mortgage then this could cause them hardship.
You could suggest that you pay them the interest that they have lost and that they count this as rent because this could go on your SOA. Are you working? If so you are by no means in a particularly bad situation compared to some people and in a few years or so you'll be wondering why you were so worried about it![strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -
Are you still there? Have a look around the boards & you will realis ethat you are by no means alone. Life is too precious & I suggest that if you are feeling suicidal that you see your GP, phone samaritans and speak to someone close to you about how desperat eyou are feeling. Much support from me too. You can get lots of that here (as well as help that's of practical use to you). I suspect I'm not the only one here who'd like to see you post again, just to know you're doing OK. Then the 'real' experts on here can get you doing better than OK

Hi there H0ney.
Hey you know the first thing that strikes me is that parents who love you so much as to buy you a cottage, probably aren't going to turn against you just because you tell them about your debts. There are genuinely millions of people - including myself - who have considerable debts. This site kind of exists because of them! There is a smaller group - which now includes you - that is doing something positive to get out of it.
Debts are something you can tackle and fix. This site will help you do it.0 -
h0ney, I spent years running and hiding from debts but the hardest thing I ever did was tell my OH just how bad it was.
I felt suicidal at one point and a very good friend talked me out of it, I'm soooooo glad he did.
It's not nice having no money and loads of debts, but it isn't enough to top yourself over.
This place is the start of a beautiful relationship:D
Keep us all posted on what happens and remember to start small.
You've admitted things to us and that's the hardest part, just take a deep breath and talk to your parents, it's the right thing to do.
Good luck chick0 -
Hi there
I'm sorry to hear you were feeling so low - debt and all the worry that comes with it can be very stressful. I hope things are feeling a bit better now. The worst part is the realisation and getting your head around things - after that it really does get easier. Once things are out in the open it feels like a weight has been lifted off and you know there's a plan in place.
Do post to let us know how you are, good or bad, otherwise we'll worry
And please, anyone who feels suicidal or needs someone to talk to - about anything big or small - please call the samaritans on 08457 90 90 90, there's always someone to listen and its completely confidential.Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Hi
How are things going? Your debt can be sorted out, you have a beautiful baby and friends on here. Think positive and take things one step at a time. Good luck!0 -
:hello: from me too.
I agree with everyone else, you must be brave and share this with your parents. They would feel terrible if they knew this was how you are feeling. Hurting yourself is not the answer. You have a kiddie to think of now.
Tell your parents as soon as you can.
