Tlk Tlk canvessors! free broadband area?! high speeds offered!

hey all fellow techie's!

i have just had an interesting covo with a tlk tlk CPW canvessor!

apparently my area is a free broadband area, (complete nonsense IMHO) i have searched high and low on BT website my local authority website (just incase its a local authority scheme) in the past and have drew a blank. the "reprasentative" boasted that tlk tlk are now running newer servers so can offer a and i quote speed of 6.1meg as she had just signed a fellow neighbour up and her speed results will be 6.1meg based on their website speed checker on her existing broadband connection, and also that if i signed up for their phone package my phone and broad band would be significantly lower than BT's low end package because i was in a "free broadband area".

i know most if not all what she said was utter carp as servers in tlk tlk have nothing to do with physical exchange equipment! servers are upgraded to cope with demand! my excisting provider upgrades about twice a year and i see no speed increase because of a server upgrade.

so i started my answer with do you know what exchange this area is connected to? yes! she said i waited for her to name it but she just looked blank! i said what exchange is this area connected to she looked down to her sheet and asnwered correctly, i asked her how farr is this area from that exchange she replied about 2 miles i corrected her its 3 nearly 4 miles from that exchange customers you allready have in this area only just manage to push 2.5meg on a good day! she replied yes but we have now upgraded our server at our head office and can now provide them with 6.1meg down speeds, i asked her to prove this speed by doing a line speed check on my pc on their website she declined saying i am not allowed into a persons property! i said then how come you did a line test for a neighbour if you didnt enter the property? no answer! i then asked if the exchange equipment has been changed she replied NO! i asked how much would i pay she said its 6.99 for broadband and 11.95 for line rental i relplied how come its 6.99 you say its a free broadband area? no reply!
i asked would there be a migration cost she said i may be charged by my existing provider and bt for early cancellation of contract!

i have just been on tlk tlk's web site to check for myself the speeds and their site tells me that i can expect an amazing speed of 1.0meg because i am 4.26k from the exchange! my current provider BE* gives me a respectable 4.5meg - 5.2meg down with 1.3meg up and extremely quiet line with pings 17ms to a server 200miles away 10ms ping to 100mile away servers. it brilliant for online gaming.

but allot of canvessors have mention this to be a free broadband area and some canvessors have wandered off exchange area knocking doors for providers that isnt enabled at my exchange! is there such thing as a free broadband area or is this a gift of the gab thing to get people stuck into their speil on the door!

talk talk are agressive as selling, but their infrastructure isn't as good as some other providers. I have a "free" broadband connection with them and can get 2.5Mb/1.3Mb - but I acknowledge that most providers will struggle to beat this because of my line length. Fortunately I have Vofrin 50Mb cable too, so only use thetalk-talk connection as a backup circuit

yes i acknowladge that its a hard game as a rival company but their canvessors must have more training! i picked out so many things that she drew a blank to or couldent answer i my opinion she was bluffing her way through the whole selling bit and then when asked to prove the speeds completely backed out if she had yeh i will show you no problem and proved me wrong i may have changed but knowing that there are at least 2 people that i know of in my localety push to get 1.5-2meg down and 512kb up and are tied to a 18months of it with no way out of it other than to prove it was mis sold to them i feel deeply that talk talk canvessors needs to have a better training policy other than completely lie and misreprasent them it just gives talk talk a bad name when it goes T I T S up for a customer because she/he was lied to about speeds and OTHER COSTS.

Jesus, what's this in English please? It's not Twitter here and I don't think that this is one of the kewl phorumz either.

Half of your txt spk I could guess or found on Google (CPW). But what the hell is a canvessor? Couldn't find it in a dictionary. Not all people here are native English speaker.

Edit: Ok, found "canvessor" as in canvasser...

They're not from Talk Talk/CPW,They are from a company called Skye Marketing & their salesmen have little or no knowledge of the product. They are paid on 100% commision basis so it's in their interest to sell. (£40 a sale)

    How do I know this?

Because I had a interview for them last year, got the job but turned it down for a couple reasons, financial & moral!!

Nobody is asking for perfect English but why have you written 'tlk tlk' over and over again in your post?

    Very strange!

I'm surprised she knew what exchange you were connected to, I would of expected her to look at your blankly to that too.

sorry your having such a bad day but is there any reason as to why your useless post is here! i know were not on twitter or facebook or bebo!

and as were not in school i do not see a need for my thread to be marked for gammar. i spelt talk talk like tlk tlk and CPW (as i guess you have no knowladge of providers) stand for Carphone Warehouse and incase of copyright infrindgment. i'm ever so sorry you searched with all your might and drew a blank on my grammar wich led to your useless post! if you like you can delete your post to waste somemore of your time and actually do use all a favour as so we no longer waste our time in reading it!

    same goes for robt.

if you get it DONT pick at it martin frowns upon people who judges grammar! see etiquette and forum rules!

her ID tag definatly had talk talk on it with no other names like skyemarketing ltd on it i held and looked at it (i do this because the area i live in has recently been subject to bogus callers) .

back to main question is there anything as free broadband areas the impression i'm getting is NO!?

    No it doesn't.

I asked you a question and then commented on what you had posted. Get over it.

Funniest thing I have heard all day. We are less than an hour into today though ;)

Seriously though your spelling (and grammar) is shockingly bad - it makes it difficult to read. Like I already said nobody expects it to be perfect but you haven't even tried.

I guess you don't care and will launch an attack instead though.

She was representing Talk Talk so that is why it just had Talk Talk on it - it doesn't need the real companies name on it.

The same as chuggers will wear a Shelter jacket and badge when they stop you in the street - they don't work for Shelter.

And no there is no such thing as free broadband 'areas'. Talk Talk probably do their basic broadband package free for 12 months when you take a 18 month contract or something though.
