Please help - I need to buy walkie talkies!

Hi,
Can anyone please advise me which brand and model of walkie talkies to buy? - budget up to £50.
Has anyone got a pair that they can recommend?
I did have a pair of cheap Binatone ones but to be honest, they were disappointing in distance and rechargeable battery life.
I would like to buy some for a holiday park so I can keep in touch with the children.
I understand about the constraints of terrain affecting distance but need something reliable for the money.
Best wishes

I have had a set of Cobra PMR radios for several years now, they have good battery life, pretty good range work well on rechargeable batteries or alkaline. Mine are no longer available but are similar to these at Amazon.

The range of all PMR446 radios is quite poor. Because they're UHF, their reception is severely affected by objects within line of sight and they're also quite low powered to begin with. I'd think that if you're getting half a mile in a caravan park, you'd be doing very well as there's lots of metal around to deflect and attenuate the signals.

Make this another vote for Cobras. My wife and I use a pair while I'm out gardening and she's in the house and they're really excellent value. On occasion we've used them over quite a long distance, but it is very flat here.

Worth a try, I'd have thought.

you can call as often as you like for FREE on Skype with one of these phones, £14.50 each, don't forget £5 cashback from Quidco.;)

They will work over longer distances too, so, for example, if you're out at the supermarket 10 miles away and want to get in touch with someone back at the park you can still do so for free.:)

They're also a bit more private than radios as you only get to hear one side of the conversation.
