Hey! Is anyone any good with the settings on scientific calculators please?! I have an accountancy exam tomorrow and I've managed to do something to the settings and can't work out how to change it back!
It's a Casio fx-85ES, what's happening is that when I'm doing calculations with answers which are either very large of small numbers, the results are coming back as a decimal point to the power of 10, when I want the answer to be, for example.... 0.0000134. I've managed to find a copy of the instruction manual online, but I can't understand that either! Help!

Maybe that's it on page E-8
'Specifying the Number of Display Digits'Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
If you press the shift and arrow button it should change it to decimals. Might have to do it a few times.0

Thank you Grandmaster, unfortunatley all that seems to do is show me the calculation I've just done ;o(
Bat999 - I had a look at that page, the Fix and Sci bits are something else wierd that I don't understand! The bottom bit, under norm, where it has the example is how I want it look (the Norm2 bit), but I can't seem to get the calculator to do that permenently??!!
Thank you!0 -
From looking at the manual I would guess you have changed the exponential display range to either norm1 or norm2 (page E-8). I would check that first and change it back to norm with 'SHIFT MODE 8'.
Doesn't look like that calculator has a reset button on back so you could reset to the default settings by following the 'Initializing the calculator' section on page E2 of the manual.0 -
There's likley to be a reset button on the back.....I'll check the model of mine and get back to you if it's the same.0

Have you pressed ENG?0

Thank you! I can't see a reset button, so I've been using the "Initializing the Calculator" instructions to clear the random buttons I've been pressing! Unfortunatley, it didn't help me get the setting I wanted though, as I remember one of the tutors changing the settings for me, because the default is to produce numbers to the power of 10 - typical!
I have however, managed to hit something which seems to have worked! Yay! I'm not certain what, but I'm just going to practice some sums now, to see if I'm right or not..... thank you all for such speedy responses! X0 -
Sorry not the left hand arrow in the middle under the screen - for me above ENG or apostrophes0
