When do I tell them I;m leaving?

I'm moving house at the end of June and need to let the electricity company know so that they can render a final bill.
My question is, do I tell them now, or wait until my last day, provide them with a meter reading and ask them to send me a final bill?

You need to give them several day's notice as they may want to read the meter themselves before giving you a final bill.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Some people take a photo of the meter with a copy of today's paper.0
-
call them on the day with the read, you dont need to give any days notice.0

I agree with PNPSUKNET. There is no need to advise in advance.Take a read on your final day then call asap with this info and a forwarding address.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

That's not what British Gas terms & conditions say:8 Ending this contract
8.1 You can end this contract for gas or electricity (or both) as follows.- If you are moving house and you do not want us to continue to supply gas or electricity at your new property (as described in clause 7.3) you must give us at least two days' notice before you move. If you do this your contract will end on the date you move out from the property (unless you still own the property and no one else has taken over responsibility for it). If you do not do this, this contract will continue until:
- two working days after you tell us; or
- another owner or occupier receives gas or electricity at the property;
I'm not sure what supplier the OP is with, so I chose the company you work for. Most suppliers appear to have similar terms ... but the OP would be best advised to refer to their own suppliers terms & conditions to be sure."Now to trolling as a concept. .... I'm sure there is a good reason for what you posted Premier. I just can't think of it.lol. I always tell people to call after they take a final read otherwise they may continue to use gas and elec and not be billed for it.
I think I will have to have a good read of the Terms and conditions! I do know that at BG they will take the info no earlier than 1 week before vacating the property but I still think I personally would due this once I was no longer using the energy.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -

Giving a supplier notice to terminate a supply contract, and giving a supplier a final reading in order to calculate a final bill are not the same thing
I agree it is best to give a final reading on the day the supply contract ends so that an accurate final bill can be prepared"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Everytime I have called in advance (as per the contract), I've just had a "that's nice, is there anything else I can do for you?" response...0
