Dishwasher cutlery basket

The cutlery basket in my ancient Hotpoint dishwasher is falling apart. The knives & forks etc are falling through the bottom and stopping the thing from washing properly. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap replacement?
I've a feeling that I could do better than order it from Hotpoint themselves.

could you try one of the electric repair shops they might have one from a broken machine that would do the job, its worth a try.:A :j0

got an idea how to patch it up:
cut a nylon scouring pad down to the size of the base of your DW cutlery baskept.
Only thingit tends to drip a little bit so put your basket on tea towel when emptying the machine.
How old is your DW?
I think hotpoint do free parts for 5 years. But you might have to ring to have it inspected before they'll authorise replacement.

I've ordered extra baskets and shelves for my Hotpoint fridge direct and price was reasonable.

basket for my zanussi was just £11.99! but surely someone like betterware does a universal basket?0 -
we got some plastic matting for our old dishwasher when it developed holes, cut to size it worked fine.0

nearlyrich, that's the kind of answer I wanted to hear!
The dishwasher itself is so ancient that I don't think it deserves a brand new basket.

Hi Frostyspice, the other half who is wonderful at DIY and all household maintainance has a garage full of stuff which may be useful one day, the plastic matting was an offcut from somewhere he used to visit from work and it proved his point that everything has a use!! LOL0 -
Caravan shops, or Motorhome shops etc sell plastic matting. They need it to stop things slipping in transit.
Otherwise Betterware, Trading 4u, Woolies might help with a substitute.
Good luck, let us know what the bodgit was!
In fact whilst on hols w/my parents this year, My Dad & boyfriend ended up w/the nicknames Fix-It and Bodgit - if you can't one, you can the other.
