Anyone use Orbit download manager?

I've been trying out a couple of download managers as I need to do regular batch downloading every day and pasting the URLs into my browser is just a pain in the harris.

I'm trying Orbit and IDM. I'm really liking IDM as it just works without any fuss. Trouble is that it's $29 and I can't find a working crack for it :rotfl:.

Orbit is of course freeware and is also a piece of p1ss to set up the batch downloads as well, but when it starts downloading them it just seems to pick the files at random instead of doing them in the order I paste them (like IDM does) and I can't find anything in the settings or the main screen to change the order. The 2nd column has a unique number for each row which I thought was the order in which it would download the files, but apparently it isn't.

The other thing is that if it tries to download a file that doesn't actually exist then the program just stops and won't move onto the next one in the list. In IDM if it doesn't exist then it'll display 'failed' and just carry on with the rest of them.

I'm close to buying IDM but I just wondered if anyone is familiar with Orbit and the issues I've mentioned? ... maybe can offer some solutions?

Thanks! :)

    Have you tried "Freedownloadmanager"?

Alternatively I use JDownloader which is free and does what you want.

As a general download manager I think FreeDownloadManager is the best. JDownloader is useful under more specialised circumstances, but it's rather clumsy user interface and the fact it's written in Java - which makes it comparatively slow and bloated - mean I've stuck with the former for many years.

Orbit is useful for downloading certain streamed content, but it has a slightly iffy reputation and, whether that is deserved or not, I wouldn't install it other than in a virtual machine.

If you want FreeDownloadManager make sure you go to http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/ as similarly named sites and products have tried to pass themselves off as it in the past.

Don't really know why in this day and age, but I use Free DownLoad Manager Lite.
    Move along, nothing to see.
