Travel Insurance Claim - HELP!

I took out travel insurance in April for my holiday. Even though I had to check out of my hotel to return home on the 19th, my flight wasn't until very early hours the following morning (20th). By mistake when I took out my insurance policy to cover my week holiday, I chosen the 19th as the ending date.

I knew very early on in the holiday that I would not be departing for home on the 20th due to the volcanic ash. I contact my travel insurance provided and they extended my insurance to an extra 30 days free of charge. I managed to get on a flight home on the 25th.

After making a claim for a delayed flight I was contacted today by the insurance company and told that because my insurance ended on the 19th i could not make a claim.

I tried to explain that early on in my holiday the post office extended my insurance by 30 days but they were not having any of it.

Can anyone tell me what I should do please!!

Have you checked whether they cover volcanic ash anyway?
Some don't and you might be wasting your time anyway.

Did you get a date, time and name for your phone call?
CAlls can be traced if you kept details.
  • it was stated that the policy was going to cover volcanic ash.
As i was abraod i contact a family member who contacted the post office to extend my policy.

From what im getting there is a problem, because my original policy was to end on the 19th and this is what the insurance company said when they contact the post office. I dont understand how this is the case, as my policy was extended before it was due to end.

Your flight was never due to leave on the 19th.

You only paid till the 19th, so your return flight was never covered.

Had you paid till the 20th, then discovered your flight on 20th was delayed, they would have extended your policy, but you can't expect them to extend it when you never had a policy to cover the 20th anyway.
