Can I get my films off my sky plus box?

Had some issues with the Sky plus box today. Engineer is due to come out but a friend has suggested that they usually just replace the box and I will therefore lose my recorded movies etc.
I don't want to invalidate the warranty or risk not having it repaired by opening the box. Is there any way to get them off the HD without opening up?

Only way to do it is manually onto a VCR or DVD recorder.0

I've heard good things about that product, but it can't quite do what the OP wants - you still have to open the Sky+ box up and remove the hard drive.0 -
Anyone know how long the warranty is for? A year?0
