Pregnant - what might we be able to claim, and when?

Hi

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant (baby due December 2010), both my husband and I work full time, he earns £22,000.00 a year, I earn £19,000.00 a year, we have no other children.

I've looked on the boards, HMRC, Direct Gov etc, but just don't seem to get it! How do I know what we might be able to to claim & when? Do I just get the forms for everything fill them all in, send them off and see what we get? Also, re the tax credits thing, when they ask for your earnings do they mean my usual annual salary or what I will actually get paid due to being on M Leave for part of this tax year and next tax year?

Thanks

you can get the health in pregnancy grant from week 19 which is £190.
child benefit of £20 a week once baby is born and child tax credits. Which on your joint income will most likely be £20 a week for first year then £10 per week after that

  • HIP grant, Child Benefit, Child Tax Credits (likely will start to disappear under new govt)

CTC's based on previous financial year P60s. Estimates are acceptable if your circumstances change. You should inform the tax office when you go on mat leave and more importantly SMP so they can work out your estimate for you.
