Marks and Spencer Credit Voucher

Hi there,
I was in M&S today trying to use one of my Credit Vouchers I received for my birthday a while back.
They have no expiry date on them. They were about 2 years old.
Upon getting to the till I was told that they 'no longer accept them'. I pointed out this didn't sound fair as they sold them on the basis they could be exchanged for goods.
I couldn't very well open a shop, sell store credit, and then change my policy to only accept a new form of store credit.
Does anyone have any advice here?

Are you sure it was a credit voucher, they are valid for 12 months and the date is printed on the till reciept. (They were when I last had one in 2008!)
