Ah good to see that the Norn Irish trait of jumping to conclusions is alive and well on MSE. This site is about saving money and in my books 500 quids worth of oil is a substantial amount. I am sure our OP was not intending to drain the tank dry and leave the new occupants without any oil. I recently helped a friend to move their oil and have 7/8 plastic 5gallon drums if they are any use to you I live in Dungannon

Since when did 500 litres = £500? According to another mse'r on this board as checked on 24th this month, 900 litres = £325, so we're probably talking around £170 pounds worth here, probably 130 pounds worth of oil if you didn't want to drain the tank completely.

With the BBC qouting the average price of a house here heading towards £170,000, asking the purchaser to part an extra 1300th of the value does appear to be a bit petty.

Back to the car analogy, when a purchaser comes to pick a car he has bought from you would you say, hang on mate, would you give me a tenner for the petrol in it?

As stated, with the rise in equity as it is in northern ireland thus probably a big lump sum being freed up, irrespective of the personal circumstances involved, i'd take it on the chin and remind myself next time when moving house to order less oil before hand.

As someone who has been through a recent seperation / divorce and had to give up my home i can sympathise but personally i don't think getting the buyers backs up when they are already parting a large amount of money is worth the hassle and loss of face.

Divorce is a messy crappy expensive thing, using this board and the main boards in MSE will be a good way of saving money in the months to come, and i wish the OP all the best for that. there is life after divorce. good luck m8.
