moving house - how can I bring oil with me?

Hello
I am moving house next month, and due to the good weather have got over half a tank of oil (around 500 litres) left in my tank. I can get hold of a pump to get the oil out of the tank, but no way of storing/transporting it! I rang Cawoods who said it would cost at least £80 + vat for them to transport it for me, so not much point.
Does anyone know where I can either buy or hire large drums or containers in which I could transport the oil to my new house? I don't want to ask my purchasers if they want to buy it cos I reckon they will say no and bank on me leaving it for them anyway, while I freeze to death in my new house!

Did yu try some of the Garages to see if they had any drums they could spare, just put them in a trailer then fill them... then pump them out at your new house...0

If I was buying another house I would expect the seller to leave the oil .
Yes I no its expensive but I would expect it to be left .0 -

Hi - I think an oil company could do this for you. My mum had to move her oil tank and I think she rang the heating oil supplier and they emptied the old, then refilled it when it was moved (this was quite a while ago). You could ring a couple to check if they do this.0

I'd take it on the chin and leave the oil. Next time you plan on moving order in smaller quantities prior....
If you were selling a car would you ask the seller to pay for half a tank of petrol after you'd agreed on a price?0 -
And I'm sure the new owners will see it as a very nice gesture on your part. Good luck in your new home too.0

thanks for your comments, however I would like to point out that the reason I am moving is due to a very messy and costly divorce, I am drastically downsizing and therefore every penny I make from my share of the house will help to pay for the childrens' school uniforms, which I'm sure you will appreciate are quite costly.0 -
Ah good to see that the Norn Irish trait of jumping to conclusions is alive and well on MSE. This site is about saving money and in my books 500 quids worth of oil is a substantial amount. I am sure our OP was not intending to drain the tank dry and leave the new occupants without any oil. I recently helped a friend to move their oil and have 7/8 plastic 5gallon drums if they are any use to you I live in Dungannon0
