Help sold a new item seller says it doesnt work

Hi,
I am new to ebay and sell very little. I sold a brand new slimline ps2.
The buyer recieved it today and said thanks but it doesnt read discs giving the well known DRE.
The ps2 was brand new and still sealed in its box. I sent it standard parcel mail with £1 to cover it upto £100. I also guess it will have a warrenty with sony.
Any ideas what to do? Thanks

Postal order

Hmmm ok, while i have used ebay loads for buying/selling, i've never actually dealt with payments by this way (just my preference thats all to use paypal).
I would offer to help them with the issue by telling them to send the item back (if they say no, chances are they're lying and want a refund so they get the item free, happened a few times to me) BUT make sure you tell them that if they send the item back they MUST obtain a certificate of posting, as then if it does not reach you, you cannot be held responsible. (just incase you dont receive it and they claim they sent it, but really didnt).
Have you got your receipt for the item? If you do then of course it will be easier for you to take the item back to where it came from, then you either get a refund and refund the buyer or swap it and send it to the buyer if they still want it.
Hope all goes well and you have an honest buyer on your hands, majority are, but some try and play you to get to keep things.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

Not got the recipt for the item from the shop but it is also under warrenty with sony.
How do I stand with my potal insurance? Can I not get the item sent back to me and then claim of the royal mail for them breaking it?
What a mess:mad:0 -
Warranty would be in your name wouldn't it? Would it cancel it out when someone else has it?
Not sure on the postal insurance part. I don't know how you'd prove that they broke it, well you couldn't, they'd just claim it arrived that way. (or did you mean royal mail breaking it?)
You could say they could keep the item and they contact sony seeing as though it does have a warranty.
My experience with royal mail is they have asked me to hold onto the items incase they want to see them (never happened as yet though). I've always had to supply details of date sent/info of certificate of postings.
I've never been in your shoes, though i did have an item pinched ( i was the buyer) the package arrived ripped open with my item gone. The seller had success with royal mail as they got a refund from them and sent me another one.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Yeah I mean with royal mail. So should I get it sent back (pay them to send it) and then claim of royal mail claiming they broke it?
Then if they dont need it send it off to sony for repair?0 -
No no, don't pay them to send it back. If its really broken and they want a refund or replacement paying to send it back shouldn't be a concern for them at all.
Anyway if they want to send it back, then yes claim through royal mail, stating that the seller received the item, but then it didn't work and you were aware it was in full working order, as you took out insurance it should cover it ( i hope).
I would send it off to sony for repair OR you could re advertise it stating it does need reparing, some people are prepared to do it themselves. Though if you decide to do this, check the problem out yourself just to make sure it did have a problem and the buyer wasn't lying.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
What happens if they refuse to pay for it to be sent back and neg me:mad:
Thanks for all this:T0 -
Well i would hope they wouldn't ask you to pay for them to send it back, be really cheeky if they did. When i have sent items back or wanted a different one, i've always paid to send them back.
Surely they wouldn't go that low??
I surpose if they did want you to pay, then its really your call if you want to, i don't see how you'd be expected to though and if anything would be held against you if you didn't, by ebay that is.
No problem for the help, well information really. I've had my fair share of things arriving damaged, pinched, not working.
I just hope you have a really nice buyer on your hands, who will help out as much as they can in return for the help you'll be giving them.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Just looking at their feedback all they have bought is ink in the past.....
So there 9 feedback is nothing for them to lose. Upto now I have asked them to check if the box is damaged I will request it to be sent back tommorrow and hope they don't ask for the money (it will be around £10).
If I then get it back I will run checks etc and if its found fualty should I pay them or wait until I get the money of royal mail(any idea how long these things take?). Then send it to sony.
Should I contact royal mail first or get them to send it to me first?
Also I actually have another ps2 sealed which I could send as a replacement but again I dont no if this is faulty
