Hi there, i was wondering about my halifax easycash account.
I have a visa electron easy cash account with the halifax and have my income support paid into this account. My income support is paid by the jobcentre on thursday and is withdrawable from a cashpoint on monday. Basically what i want to know is can i do an online transaction on my debit card on sunday evening / night and would it authorise the amount. My friend was paid last monday but was authorised to do a transaction on sunday night.

To be honest I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of people do this and the majority of the time it does work because debit card authorisations can take a day to go through on your bank account. However sometimes they are quicker and the way the banks sometimes do it is that they back date the payment to when it was made rather than when it was authorised and if you have no money in at that time it could result in a fee or charge on your bank account. As I said it can work but i strongly advise against it, try to only pay when you have the funds available.

100% correct:beer: and with regards to halifax authorising payments the night before on the easycash account they won't authorise them until after 4am (which is when the system credits payments into accounts).
This is the time they are credited for all halifax accounts. Telephone banking becomes unavailable while its happening aswell you get a message about "updating their systems".
RBS and Natwest will allow you to spend Mondays payments from Saturday onwards (as long as you don't do bill payments or funds transfers with the money) then you won't go into the red.0
